My name is Michelle (McDaniel) Ross. I was born and raised in Caldwell, Idaho. I am a 1996 graduate of Caldwell High School (Go C-Town Cougs!). From there I headed to Provo, Utah where I earned degrees in both English and Spanish with a secondary teaching certificate at Brigham Young University. After finishing my degree in the shadow of the Wasatch mountains, I returned home to the Treasure Valley to teach. While teaching, I completed my master's degree in Middle Level Education through Walden University.
I have been teaching at Marsing Middle School for six years and have really enjoyed my time out there. I have taught reading and English, 6-8 grade in those years, but my preference definitely lies with the 8th grade students. I love to teach Poe to the kids, as well as a bit about Shakespearean sonnets, and watch them work towards becoming proficient writers. More than that though, I love to watch them grow up and become wonderful young men and women! There are so many changes that happen during those critical middle school years and I am grateful that I get to be (hopefully) a small influence in their lives during that time.
Since I was a kid, I have always loved to travel. My parents are educators, which means we always had the same breaks from school as them. These breaks were spent piled into the car and heading anywhere we could get to by automobile! We'd pack sandwich fixings in a cooler in the trunk and head out! I think that is where I learned to love traveling. Since those days of three kids fighting over the window seat, I have been many places. I lived and went to school in the Dominican Republic while in college. While there I had the chance to visit Haiti and Puerto Rico. A couple of summers ago I went with my family to Argentina, and now it seems I am headed off on the biggest adventure of my life--China!
I have to say, I am grateful to be going to China with Thad. When I went to the DR, I went alone, and that was rough at times. I am thrilled that we are embarking on this adventure together! (Plus, his Chinese is much better than mine at this point. Hopefully he knows how to ask about buying shoes!)
So, here we go. We are off to China in June 2006!!
