So That's It
We finally got an answer.
The Gansu provincial government has said that there is no way that we will be able to go back to Chengxian to teach. The time that we have spent teaching in China is over. Tomorrow we will go back one last time to say goodbye, collect our belongings and say goodbye. We tried arguing, compromising, influencing, cajoling and other ways to get them to come around, but they're not budging.
Michelle and I have decided to go home a few weeks early rather than hang on for the last few weeks in Chengdu or Tianshui. I can work on finding a job and we can take our time getting a place to live and other neccessities of life in America. It is heartbreaking to have to say goodbye this way, but we have no choice.
On the bright side. I will be flying home soon and can see my Liberty Students graduate, which I wouldn't normally have been able to do.
In Peace Corps, one of the big lessons that nearly all of the volunteers have picked up is the ability to be flexible and roll with the punches. Now, more than ever that lesson is coming in handy.
So soon we will be on a plane, watching China fade out of sight.
See you soon...

We are all really proud of you and Michelle for trying to fight so hard to stand up for what you want and what you believe in. We all feel you have done an outstanding job, especially considering the disaster, and you have done everything you could to make things right. As much as we, too, wish you could stay to finish everything the way you want, we are also happy to hear you are coming home, and we are excited to see you. :)
Never think you have not made a tremendous difference in the lives of your students. They are better persons for your time and effort and you two have grown too.
You walked the talk and made the change you wish to see in this world by taking an active part in the promoting the change.
and we know that your contributions to making this world a better place will not stop with your time in China...it will continue here at home in Idaho! Thank you. We are proud of you.
Love, mom and dad
Mr. Ross,
I'm sorry it had to end so abruptly, but I think I speak for everyone who knows you when I say how proud we are of your commitment and passion. I've really enjoyed reading your blog and I'm glad you're alright. Also, I'm sure the graduates will be very happy to have you attend their ceremony. Life goes on, and you and Michelle have so many wonderful experiences ahead of you.
I'm praying for you!
Ashley
Thanks everyone. We appreciate your kind words. We'll see all of you very soon.
